Historic Town of Merano

Shopping mile, meeting point and medieval sight all rolled into one: the Historic Town of Merano ("Lauben") awaits you with a potpourri of a wide variety of shops, bars and pubs! Whether a leisurely stroll with an ice cream in hand or a shopping tour in the trendy shops, you will feel very, very comfortable in the middle of this attraction in Merano with its old walls!

Business has been done here since the 14th century, and over the centuries the arbor houses have grown so high that new, higher clocks had to be installed on the parish church tower.

Over the post bridge with its mosaic-decorated bridge posts and its gold-plated parapet, you will reach the historic Bolzano Gate from the 14th century. From here, after a short ascent, the Merano arcades begin. Now it goes gently downhill between the arches of the historic buildings to Piazza del Grano, the opposite beginning of this magnificent shopping street.

On both sides of the 400 meter long Merano arcades, behind the old arches, there are the merchants of Merano.

Small, manageable boutiques alternate with multi-storey specialty shops for sporting goods, modern electronics stores with suppliers of high-quality Italian shoe fashion, fresh pasta can be found here as well as trendy sneakers, books, as well as mountain and outdoor items. Long-established butcher families offer meat and sausage specialties in their ultra-modern shops, as do young creative designers their hand-sewn fashion items. And again and again bars and restaurants that offer the opportunity to sit down on comfortable armchairs in the middle of the arbors for a Veneziano or a coffee, but also for a cozy dinner outdoors!
