Conceived and donated by the spa doctor Dr. Tappeiner, the Tappeinerweg trail has been running over Merano's roofs for 150 years and has not lost any of its popularity despite its age - on the contrary!
Over 400 different plants line this path, which was donated by the famous Merano spa doctor, on its route from Küchelberg to Quarazze.
At the beginning of the Tappeinerweg trail there is the powder tower and the public herb garden. There and back you have to cover 6 km on the whole route to Quarazze on a level route, which thanks to its beauty pass by far too quickly.
There are several ways to reach the Tappeinerweg trail via Merano: Thanks to its central location above the city, you can walk up the winter promenade, over the old and steep path behind the parish church and from Via Gallilei, right next to the Sissi Restaurant. An average walk takes around 1-2 hours, depending on the route.
In the evening the Tappeinerweg trail offers a romantic view of the city lights, in the summer months you can feel how the rocks and walls along the route slowly give off their warmth.
The Tappeinerweg trail is always open. However, it can get tight on public holidays and in the tourist high season, as the Tappeinerweg trail is very busy.
It’s quiet and relaxed in the evening. While some joggers are doing their laps you will always find space on the numerous park benches, from which you can enjoy the view of Merano in peace.
At the beginning of the Tappeinerweg trail (city side) you can climb the 26 meter high powder tower.
The Tappeinerweg trail is lined with rest benches and viewing areas, which offer a rest and a view of Merano.
At the height of the Merano parish church there is a species-rich, publicly accessible herb garden, which is maintained by the Merano city nursery.
