Maiser Waalweg in Meran und Passeiertal

Maiser Waalweg trail

The Maiser Waalweg path is without a doubt one of the most popular and most frequently used Waalweg paths in South Tyrol. In addition, it is quite long at 9 km and in any case, the inspection of its accompanying path is very worthwhile and recommended in every season. The Maiser Waalweg path begins at Saltusio and ends at Plazza Fontana in Maia Alta (Merano, 412 m). It was laid out in 1462, has largely been preserved in its original state and is fully operational.

The irrigation channel is lined with lush vegetation and its numerous deciduous and coniferous trees offer pleasant shade even in the summer months.

Tour details

Drive by car or bus to Saltusio, park the vehicle there at the spacious Hirzer car park, below the sports field or at the Torgglerhof. The hike begins above the Torgglerhof and is very well signposted from here (walking time to Maia Alta approx. 3 hours). For a shorter variant, we recommend the descent to the sports field of Riffiano and the return hike via the “Passerdammweg”.
